Free TEAS math practice questions, explained step by step
TEAS math practice split into ATI's two math sub-content areas: numbers and algebra (12%, 18 scored items) and measurement and data (11%, 16 scored items), each with a worked explanation and the named mistake behind every wrong choice.
TEAS math practice questions here come with a worked explanation on every item — the arithmetic written out step by step, and the mistake each wrong choice is built from. ATI's math section is 38 items in 57 minutes, and the blueprint splits those items into exactly two sub-content areas, so there are two free sets rather than one mixed drill.
What the math section is made of
ATI's published content outline gives the section a 23% weight of the exam and 34 scored items of the 150, in 57 minutes:
| Sub-content area | Weight | Scored items | What it asks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Numbers and algebra | 12% | 18 | operations and their order, fractions, decimals and percents, ratios and proportions, solving equations and inequalities, word problems |
| Measurement and data | 11% | 16 | unit conversions, rates, reading tables and graphs, mean, median and mode, perimeter, area, volume and surface area |
The sub-content area names, their weights and their item counts are ATI's published outline; the wording in the "What it asks" column is ours, describing what our practice items cover.
The two are not interchangeable. Numbers and algebra is arithmetic turned into an equation you solve; Measurement and data is a number in a context you have to read before you can compute anything — a table, a unit, a shape. A learner who is fast at one and slow at the other needs a set of each, which is why the free sets are separate.
How the clock actually feels
The section's clock is 57 minutes for 38 items, which works out to about 1.5 minutes an item — the most generous pace of the four sections. It rewards care over speed, because a misread unit or a dropped sign costs a whole item rather than a step.
Two habits pay best in a math set: write the unit next to every number, and convert before you compute rather than after. The formulas and conversions sheet carries the sample formulas ATI publishes and the conversion factors from NIST SP 811.
The free math sets
- Numbers and algebra practice — 18 of the section's scored items sit here by weight, the largest single block in math
- Measurement and data practice — conversions, data reading, and geometric measurement
Each set has a hint before you commit, an explanation after, and a one-line reason for each wrong choice. The method behind every procedure is in the matching guide: numbers and algebra and measurement and data.
What these sets are not
They are not a score estimate. ATI equates the total and content-area scores across versions of the exam, so a raw percentage on any practice set is not a TEAS score, and this site will not present one as if it were. They are also not the official items — ATI does not publish its scored bank, so every question here is written by us to ATI's published outline for these two sub-content areas.
The section-by-section totals are on how many questions are on the TEAS, and the rest of the paper is at TEAS practice test.
